Family Catechesis Overview

It is with much excitement that I announce a change in our Parish School of Religion program for the 2023-2024 school year. Beginning this August, we are moving away from the traditional PSR program to the Family Catechesis model.

Why the change to Family Catechesis?

Family catechesis has proven to be a powerful experience for thousands of families across the nation. One goal of religious education is to nurture and encourage children and teens to become lifelong Catholics and members of the church. Raising and developing lifelong Catholics begins in the home and is supported by the home parish.

“Family-centered catechetical programs are opportunities for parents to catechize their children directly, for spouses to catechize each other and for children to catechize one another and their parents” (National Directory for Catechesis #61.2).

Benefits of Family Catechesis

  • help families learn how to pray and to discuss their faith together
  • strengthen the relationship between the family and the Church
  • integrate the family into the parish community
  • more flexibility than the traditional PSR program, thus more accessibility for busy families

How does it work?
