St. Vincent De Paul Society

st vincent de paul

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent De Paul (SVDP) is an international Catholic lay organization dedicated to providing person-to-person service to all those in need. People do not have to be Catholic to receive our services; in fact, when it comes to the people we help, we don’t serve them because they are Catholic.  We serve them because we are Catholic. The Society consists of 142 parish-based conferences (chapters) in the St. Louis Archdiocese.
Each conference provides its members (called Vincentians) an opportunity for spiritual growth, friendship, and service.

The St. Clement Conference collects parishioner donations of food, clothing, furniture, and money which are used to serve those in need. While the primary focus of each conference is within its parish boundaries, many times we work with other conferences in the St. Louis area in meeting their requests for assistance. The Society is built on person-to-person contact in order to be the hands of Christ to them and to fully understand the person’s needs.  A number of members of the St. Clement Society make home visits and take calls for assistance from those in need. The assistance provided includes, but is not limited to, food, utilities, rent, and auto purchase and repair.

Various other ways to participate include delivering food and clothing to parishes in the Diocese, helping out at our regularly scheduled food and clothing drives, the annual Walk for the Poor, and volunteering with other members at food pantries and the SVDP Thrift Stores. There are also opportunities to meet and work with Vincentians from other parishes in the Archdiocese.

We meet on the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 PM. The meetings are normally held in the Music Room of the School. However, the first meeting of the month begins in the Adoration Chapel at 7:00 PM with a half hour of adoration and then concludes in the Music Room. The second meeting of the month is primarily a business meeting. While it is not necessary to come to every meeting, all members are encouraged to attend as often as possible.
