Hugs & Stitches
Hugs & Stitches is a group of women from St. Clement of Rome Parish who sew, knit, crochet, quilt and embroider. Our group began in 2001. The focus of our mission is to make handmade, useful baby items for mothers in need. Our beautiful handcrafted items are donated to Birthright Counseling of St. Louis, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Haiti missions and other charitable service organizations who serve mothers and children in need. These women may not have the benefit of family members who will make treasured keepsake items as we are accustomed to and we hope that we fill that void for them and that they will pay it forward some day when they are able.
We welcome members who do not have needlecraft skills but who are willing to shop for useful items that we cannot make by hand. All are welcome.
Each member makes or purchases items she feels would be needed, such as afghans, quilts, receiving blankets, bibs, burp cloths, onesies, socks, sleepers, clothing, hats, sweaters, booties, lotions, sheets, washcloths, etc. We typically need sizes from newborn to 2 years of age. We meet twice a year to collect finished items – in early summer and before Christmas. At Christmas we include items for the mothers.

Our patron saint is St. Ann, Patron Saint of Seamstresses,
Mother of Our Lady. Grandmother of Jesus Christ. Wife of Saint Joachim.
Her names means “gracious one”. Her memorial day is July 26th.
