FAQ
What is "Catechesis"?
Catechesis is organized and systematic teaching of the Catholic Faith to children, youth, and adults. Catholics who know their faith have typically been catechized.
As an adult, how do I become "catechized"?
Read to understand the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Isn't the Catechism of the Catholic Church a big book and hard to understand?
The Catechism is a book with approximately 750 pages. Commit to reading only 2 pages each day and you'll be done in one year.
Or, take four courses at the Paul VI Institute of the Archdiocese of St. Louis that correspond to the four section of Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Paul VI Insitute is an excellent way to learn your faith in a traditional classroom setting on online. Online students can form small study groups to enhance understanding. And, Paul VI courses are FREE to members of St. Clement Parish.
What is "Evangelization"?
Evangelization is actively spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. Another word for Good News is The Gospel. The Gospel is more that just the biblical books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The Gospel is the truths of Catholic doctrine.
Don't only protestants "evangelize"?
Protestants are over four times more likely than Catholics to evangelize. That's because protestants are more likely to study the Bible than Catholics, since their faith is biblically-based. The vast majority of Catholics do not evangelize effectively or at all because the lack either the faith and/or confidence. If they lack faith they should pray to increase the faith they have. If they lack confidence typically is is because they do not know their faith. Education in the faith for most Catholics stopped at grade school or high school. They do not know their faith from an adult's point of view, so they can't spread what they don't know. All Christians are required by their baptism promises to evangelize. It's not an option.
