Hospitality Ministers
HOSPITALITY MINISTRY
The Hospitality Ministry consists of three separate, but equally important activities. They are:
· Greeters, whose function is to welcome people, especially those they do not know, as they enter the vestibule of church and some choose to distribute bulletins to the congregation as they leave Mass. Greeters are expected to gather in the vestibule 10 to 15 minutes before Mass is scheduled to start. Greeters normally take their seat in Church, just prior to the start of Mass. If for some reason a greeter is unable to attend their normal Mass, notification of the Hospitality captain is not necessary, but preferred.
· Ushers, whose main function is to take up the offertory collection. Other functions, when necessary, include helping seat parishioners, helping the sick, and on rare occasions helping park cars. At least one usher, usually the Hospitality captain, arrives 15 to 20 minutes before the start of Mass to make sure all of the doors are unlocked. If for some reason an usher is unable to attend their normal Mass, they are expected to notify their Hospitality captain, in order that the captain may obtain another usher from the substitute pool.
· Bulletin Distribution. Those who distribute Bulletins, make sure the Bulletins are in the racks by the exits at or before the start of the Holy Communion being given to the congregation. At the end of each service, Bulletin Distributers stand in the back of Church and offer Bulletins to the congregation as they exit Church.
Ideally there should be at least two to four greeters and 9-10 ushers and two Bulletin Distributers for each Saturday evening and Sunday morning Mass. Some parishioners chose only to greet people before Mass, others chose only to distribute bulletins at the end of Mass, and others just help with the collection and last but not least, some do all three.
On special occasions such as First Communion, 11:00 PM Mass on Christmas Eve and Confirmation. Hospitality Ministers volunteer to assist as needed.
If you find yourself attending Mass about the same time every week, and think you might be interested in joining the Hospitality Ministry give Bill Dales (314-965-1411) a telephone call.
